Game Recap: Coachella Valley (4) at Tucson (3) (OT)

Tucson, Arizona – The Tucson Roadrunners faced off with the Coachella Valley Firebirds Saturday night in front of a crowd of 4,388 at the Tucson Arena, closing out a two-game set with the AHL affiliate of the Seattle Kraken. The Roadrunners picked up a point in the standings as they fell to the Firebirds in overtime by a score of 4-3. Tucson Forward Mike Carcone extended his team lead for points to 14 (4g, 10a) with a goal and an assist. After Saturday’s contest, the Tucson Roadrunners raised nearly $30,000 in their postgame Military Jersey auction with all proceeds going to VetTix, an organization that provides tickets to sports games, concerts and other events to Veterans and their families.

Game #10 – Firebirds at Roadrunners

The Tucson Roadrunners will wrap up the first series of their six-game home stand Saturday night, as they’ll face off once again with the Coachella Valley Firebirds. Tucson will look to win seven of their first ten games for the fourth time in seven seasons, as the team is once again in an early-season hunt for first in the AHL’s Pacific Division at 6-3-0-0. Saturday’s game will be televised live in Southern Arizona on The CW Tucson, for the first of six televised Roadrunners games this season. The game will also be Tucson’s Military Appreciation Night presented by VetTix, with the team wearing their Military Specialty Jerseys for the game.

Tucson, Arizona – The Tucson Roadrunners returned home Friday night to begin a six-game home stand at the Tucson Arena. Friday’s matchup was the first of back-to-back meetings with the new Coachella Valley Firebirds, AHL affiliate of the Seattle Kraken. The Firebirds handed the Roadrunners their first loss in a series opener this season by a score of 4-1, dropping Tucson’s record to 6-3-0-0 and improving Coachella Valley to 6-3-0-0. Tucson netminder Ivan Prosvetov stopped 34 of 37 shots faced, both the second-highest totals of the season against the 23-year-old.

Game #9 – Firebirds at Roadrunners

The 6-2-0-0 Tucson Roadrunners return home to kick off a six-game home stand Friday night at the Tucson Arena, as they’ll play host to the new Coachella Valley Firebirds for the first time. The AHL affiliate of the Seattle Kraken currently sit at 5-3-0-0 and take their first trip to the desert after starting the season with four matchups apiece against Calgary and Abbotsford. Tucson will look to remain one of two teams in the American Hockey League yet to lose at home this season (Rochester), as they enter the weekend with a 2-0-0-0 record at the Tucson Arena.

Calgary, Alberta – The Tucson Roadrunners wrapped up their four-game road trip Friday afternoon with the second of two meetings with the Calgary Wranglers at the Scotiabank Saddledome. The Roadrunners scored a pair of goals late in the contest to erase a 2-0 deficit, but the Wranglers retook the lead to earn their first home win of the season by a score of 3-2. Roadrunners goaltender Jon Gillies stopped 26 of 29 shots faced against his former organization, while Laurent Dauphin and Milos Kelemen established point streaks of two games with assists.

Game #8 – Roadrunners At Wranglers

The Roadrunners wrap up their road trip and two-game set with the Calgary Wranglers Friday afternoon at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta. Tucson is looking for their sixth consecutive win and a perfect 4-0 road trip after taking the series opener on Wednesday 3-1. The Wranglers are seeking their first home win since moving to Calgary from Stockton, with an 0-3 record so far this season at the Saddledome.

Calgary, Alberta – The Tucson Roadrunners took on the Calgary Wranglers Wednesday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome for the first meeting with the Calgary Flames AHL affiliate since they moved from Stockton. Tucson held on to win the series opener by a score of 3-1, as they kept their opponent without a shot in a period for the first time in team history in Wednesday’s third period. Goaltender Ivan Prosvetov earned the win for Tucson to match his best start to a season at 4-0-0, as he stopped 29 of 30 shots faced.

Game #7 – Roadrunners At Wranglers

The Roadrunners reach their second stop on the four-game road trip for the first of two meetings with the Calgary Wranglers Wednesday and Friday. The two-game set will wrap up Tucson’s current stint on the road, after back-to-back wins over the San Jose Barracuda last Friday and Saturday. The Roadrunners are in Canada this week for the first time since February 9, 2022, when they took on the Abbotsford Canucks.

San Jose, California – The Tucson Roadrunners won their fourth consecutive game and earned their second-straight series sweep Saturday with a 4-3 shootout victory against the San Jose Barracuda. Forward Mike Carcone factored into all three regulation scores with a goal and two assists, while goaltender Jon Gillies made 38 saves and went a perfect three-for-three in the shootout. Tucson extends their current winning streak to four games, as they’ll head north to Calgary to face the Wranglers for the first time in franchise history starting on Wednesday.

Game #6 – Roadrunners At Barracuda

The Roadrunners wrap up their weekend series with the San Jose Barracuda Saturday afternoon at the Tech CU Arena after meeting for the first time this season Friday night. Tucson will be looking for their fourth-straight win after Friday’s 5-1 victory in the series opener, backed by a three-goal second period to erase a 1-0 deficit. The Roadrunners will look to remain ahead of the Barracuda in the AHL’s Pacific Division standings, after jumping the San Jose Sharks AHL affiliate for second place on Friday.

San Jose, California – The Tucson Roadrunners improved to 4-1-0-0 on the year Friday night, as they handed the San Jose Barracuda their second loss of the season by a score of 5-1. The Barracuda took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission, before Tucson answered back with the next five goals to close out the contest. Roadrunners goaltender Ivan Prosvetov stopped 38 of 39 shots faced for his third win through three starts this season, while Mike Carcone, Jean-Sebastien Dea, Cam Dineen, Adam Cracknell, Jan Jenik, and Laurent Dauphin all extended their scoring streaks to three outings or more.

Game #5 – Roadrunners At Barracuda

The Roadrunners head out on the road after their 2-0 home stand to take on the San Jose Barracuda in a two-game set at the new Tech CU Arena. Tucson enters the series tied for third in the AHL’s Pacific Division at 3-1-0-0, while the Barracuda are coming off their first loss of the season, a 2-1 defeat against the Ontario Reign at home on Wednesday to fall to second place at 4-1-0-0. Friday’s game will mark the start of the Roadrunners first multi-city road trip of the season, as they’ll travel to Calgary to face the Wranglers next week.
