Last Week Today: Three-in-Three

By: Alexander Kinkopf

The Rundown:

Three games, three points. The Roadrunners finished their week with a 1-1-1-0 record. They kicked things off by hosting the Bakersfield Condors for the final time this season, and once the weekend hit, welcomed the San Antonio Rampage for their lone swing through Southern Arizona.
On Monday evening, the Roadrunners clawed back from a hefty deficit to get within a goal, hit a couple of posts in the final seconds, but fell short and suffered their first loss to the Condors this season.
But oh, did we ever have a group of special visitors!
Dylan Strome scored his team-leading 20th goal of the season in the loss, tying Christian Fischer’s 2016-17 total for the highest mark for a Roadrunners player in a single season.
On Friday night, the Roadrunners earned a 2-1 overtime victory over the San Antonio RampageMike Sislo credited with the game-winning goal 1:40 into the extra frame - scoring his fifth GWG of the year, tying Nick Merkley for the most on the team.
The win served as the Roadrunners’ 29th of the season – matching their total from the 2016-17 campaign.
In Saturday's weekly finale, the Roadrunners were held scoreless for the first time all season in a 1-0 overtime loss to San Antonio despite outshooting the Rampage by a 44-11 count.
The Roadrunners’ 11 shots allowed was the fewest in franchise history, and also the fewest allowed by a team in the American Hockey League this season.

Highlight of the Week:

With time dwindling in the third period and facing a three-goal deficit Monday night at Tucson Arena, Michael Bunting fled into Bakersfield’s zone on the forecheck after a neutral zone faceoff, initiated a turnover, and fed Dylan Strome to get the Roadrunners on the board in the team’s eventual 3-2 loss.
