Last Week Today: Hello, Again

The Rundown:

Three wins, and now only four points out.

The Roadrunners tended to a busy schedule to begin a six-game home stand fully entangled with 'make-or-break' implications on their efforts toward qualifying for a Calder Cup playoff berth. They played four games in six nights, and quite frankly, they look to be back.

Six points earned. Knocking on the door.

Trade-deadline acquisition Michael Chaput had himself a remarkable week, hot to the touch from the get-go, burying two goals in the Roadrunners’ 5-2 victory over the Iowa Wild on Tuesday night.

The veteran forward, who’s been centering the first line of late, finished the week with five points (3G, 2A), and now has a total of eight (4G, 4A) in eight games since joining the Roadrunners’ roster.

Lane Pederson continued his stellar sophomore campaign with arguably his biggest performance of the season Saturday night, netting his first pro hat trick, including the overtime winner, to jolt the Roadrunners to a 3-2 win over the San Jose Barracuda.

Pederson’s hat trick was the fifth in team history.

There was more late-game drama to be had on Sunday, when Michael Bunting scored the game-winning goal with nine seconds left in the third period, leading the Roadrunners to a 2-1 victory over San Jose.

At week’s outset, the Roadrunners sit four points behind both the fourth-place Colorado Eagles and the third-place San Diego Gulls, with two games remaining against each.

Alumni in Action:

Conor's quick! In the thick of an extended shootout Saturday afternoon at the Prudential Center, Conor Garland beat Mackenzie Blackwood with a slick move to his backhand, pushing the breakaway contest to a sixth round in the Coyotes’ eventual 2-1 point-earned loss to the New Jersey Devils.

Highlight of the Week:

Locked in a scoreless tie with just over 13 minutes to play in regulation Sunday evening, Nick Merkley dropped for Michael Chaput, who walked in and leaned into a wrist shot that beat Antoine Bibeau high to the blocker side, off of the corner bar and into the net, giving the Roadrunners their first lead of the night in the team’s eventual 2-1 win over the San Jose Barracuda. Target acquired. Target hit.
