CONDORS ON QUEUE: Tonight marks the second of eight meetings with the Condors this season, and the first of Bakersfield’s four scheduled visits to Tucson Arena. The Roadrunners are playing the fifth of a six-game home stand; they’re coming off of a 3-2 overtime victory over the Cleveland Monsters on Saturday night. The Condors are playing the first of a four-game road trip; they’re coming off of a 2-1 overtime loss to the Manitoba Moose on Saturday.
SHUTDOWN CENTRAL: The Roadrunners enter the evening having surrendered the least amount of goals of any team in the American Hockey League this season (22). They have the league’s third-best GAA, holding their opponents to an average of 2.44 goals per contest. The Condors come into the night with the league’s 27th-ranked offense, scoring an average of 2.50 goals per game.
SHOOT YOUR SHOT: Nick Merkley, who scored his first pro goal against the Condors on October 14, leads the Roadrunners in goals scored with six, and is third among AHL rookies with a 31.6 shooting percentage (6-for-19). “I think I’m just going to try and do all of the little things right again, obviously I got a couple of good bounces last weekend, and hopefully they keep coming,” he said following Friday’s morning skate. “I think with hard work those bounces will come, so it’s just about working hard and then the rest will come.”
