Three weeks is a long time to be away. It only, though, makes the return that much sweeter.
The Roadrunners’ week brought upon two games, and two big changes. The team capped off its season-long six-game road trip Wednesday night, and then arrived in Tucson Saturday to begin a four-game home stand, where an energetic crowd was waiting.
In Wednesday’s trip finale, the Roadrunners fell to the San Jose Barracuda by a 4-2 count, losing for just the third time in regulation when entering a third period tied. Lawson Crouse became the ninth Roadrunners player to hit the 20-point mark with an assist in the first period. The loss saw the team finish its trip with a 4-2-0-0 mark, earning eight out of a possible 12 points.
A wondrous homecoming it was Saturday night, as the Roadrunners skated to a 5-4 victory over the Bakersfield Condors in front of 6,311 fans at Tucson Arena.
With the win, the team improved to a perfect 5-0-0-0 against the Condors this season. Tyler Gaudet, in scoring the Roadrunners’ third goal of the evening, matched his point total (22) from the 2016-17 campaign in 17 fewer games. Dylan Strome tied a career-high in points (4) and assists (3) in the victory.
The Roadrunners are 15-6-0-0 since the holiday break.

Alumni in Action:
The Arizona Coyotes blitzed through the week with a perfect 4-0-0 record, and forwards Christian Fischer and Brendan Perlini chipped in handily. Fischer totaled four assists during the team’s four wins, while Perlini shocked the Montreal Canadiens with a pair of goals in a 19 second span in Thursday’s 5-2 victory at Gila River Arena.
Trevor Cheek has registered 12 points in 11 games played with the ECHL’s Fort Wayne Komets this season, and is currently riding a seven-game point streak. In 16 games with the Roadrunners this season, Cheek totaled seven points (2G, 5A).
Highlight of the Week:
Just over seven minutes into Wednesday night’s game against the San Jose Barracuda, Lawson Crouse delivered a pass to Mike Sislo, who in corralling the puck in full stride, stepped in and beat Troy Grosenick with a wrist shot to give the Roadrunners an early 1-0 lead in the team's eventual 4-2 loss at the SAP Center.
