Jay Varady

Head Coach

Jay Varady was hired as the third head coach in Tucson Roadrunners franchise history on July 2, 2018 and led the team to a record of 34-26-5-3 in his first season behind the bench.
Varady comes to the organization following one season of leading the Ontario Hockey League’s Kingston Frontenacs.  Prior to his time in Kingston, the 42-year-old spent four years at the helm of the United States Hockey League’s Sioux City Musketeers.
A former Union College player, Varady began his coaching career at his alma mater as an assistant in 2000. Following his stint at the New York institution, Varady joined the North American Hockey League’s Pittsburgh Force in the same role. A native of Cahokia, IL, Varady continued his progression to the Western Hockey League’s Everett Silvertips from 2003-2011. His first position as the sole Head Coach of a club came in France as a member of the Angers club from 2011-2013.
