Leading into Training Camp, we will update this article with the latest signings of recent Roadrunners and other players that we’ve seen throughout the AHL who have signed with the Arizona Coyotes. In addition, the Coyotes have issued qualifying offers to several prospects listed below.
September 20
The Arizona Coyotes have signed forward Jan Jenik to a one-year, two-way contract. Last season, the 23-year-old Jenik registered seven goals and 16 assists for 23 points in 30 games with the Roadrunners. He also appeared in two games for the Coyotes last year. The 6-foot-1, 181-pound forward has recorded four goals and one assist for five points in 17 career NHL games with the team over three seasons. Since joining the Roadrunners for the 2021-2022 season, the Nymburk, Czech Republic native is the team’s second leading scorer behind Mike Carcone with 30 goals and 54 assists for 84 points and 167 penalty minutes in 110 career AHL games. Jenik was originally drafted by the Coyotes in the third round (65th overall) in the 2018 NHL Draft.
July 18
The Arizona Coyotes have signed goaltender Ivan Prosvetov to a one-year, two-way contract. He finished the 2022-2023 season as the longest current tenured Roadrunner having made his professional debut with Tucson on October 19, 2019 and stopping 29 of 31 shots in a Roadrunners 4-2 win over San Antonio at Tucson Arena. Last season, the 24-year-old Prosvetov posted a 4-3-0 record in seven games with the Coyotes and went 16-13-4 in 35 appearances with the Roadrunners. He ranks second all-time for the Roadrunners in wins (54), saves (3,347), shutouts (4) and minutes (7,161). He has appeared in 13 career NHL games with the Coyotes and 125 career AHL games with Tucson. He was drafted by the Coyotes in the fourth round (114th overall) of the 2018 NHL Draft.
July 15
The Arizona Coyotes have signed forward Justin Kirkland to a one-year, two-way contract. The Roadrunners have faced Kirkland with San Diego and Stockton where he has totaled six goals and eight assists for 14 points in 17 games against Tucson; including one goal and two assists for three points in three games during the 2022-2023 campaign with the Gulls. Last season, the 6-foot-3, 194-pound Kirkland played in 32 games total for the San Diego; serving as an alternate captain and recording nine goals and nine assists for 18 points while also skating in seven games with the Anaheim Ducks following his NHL debut on December 20, 2022 at Los Angeles. The 26-year-old native of Camrose, Alberta has registered 67 goals and 103 assists for 170 points and 262 penalty minutes in 365 career AHL games with the Gulls, Stockton Heat and Milwaukee Admirals. Kirkland has eight goals and 10 assists for 18 points in 21 career AHL playoff games. He was drafted by the Nashville Predators in the third round (62nd overall) in the 2014 NHL Draft.
July 14
The Arizona Coyotes have signed forward Zach Sanford to a one-year, two-way contract. Last season, the 6-foot-4, 207-pound Sanford played in 45 games for the AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals and recorded 12 goals and 16 assists for 28 points. He led Milwaukee in scoring against Tucson with eight points in four games on four goals and four assists during January 10 and 11 (Tucson Arena) plus March 10 and 11 tilts. He also played in 16 games for the Nashville Predators and tallied two goals and one assist. In addition, Sanford skated in 16 playoff games for Milwaukee as they advanced to the Western Conference Finals and had three goals and four assists for seven points in those affairs. The Salem, Massachusetts native has played in 305 career NHL games, registering 49 goals and 49 assists for 98 points and 138 penalty minutes with the Predators, Winnipeg Jets, Ottawa Senators and St. Louis Blues. He was a member of the 2019 Stanley Cup Champion Blues where he appeared in eight games during the postseason and drew one goal and three assists for four points. In St. Louis, he also had Arizona Coyotes General Manager Bill Armstrong as his Assistant General Manager. Sanford was drafted by the Washington Capitals in the second round (61st overall) in the 2013 NHL Draft.
July 11
The Arizona Coyotes have signed defenseman Montana Onyebuchi to a two-year, entry-level contract. A familiar face to Roadrunners fans over the last two seasons with the San Jose Barracuda, the Manitoba native has one goal and five assists for six points in ten games and a plus-five against Tucson. He has also fought four times against the Roadrunners and totaled 38 penalty minutes. He was fourth in the American Hockey League in penalty minutes during the 2021-2022 season with 137 in 46 games. Before turning pro, he played five seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Everett Silvertips and Kamloops Blazers. The 23-year-old stands at six-foot-three and weighs 220 pounds.
July 8
The Arizona Coyotes have signed forward Nathan Smith to a one-year, two-way contract. Last season, the 24-year-old Smith registered 12 goals and 15 assists for 27 points and 37 penalty minutes (PIM) in 64 regular-season games with the Roadrunners while also seeing action in one playoff game for Tucson. During the regular season, the Roadrunners were 7-3 when he scored a goal. He also appeared in four games for the Coyotes in 2022-23. The 6 foot, 177-pound forward made his NHL debut in 2021-22 and played in the final 10 Coyotes games of the campaign, recording two goals and two assists for four points. This came after completing three seasons at Minnesota State (NCAA) where he tallied 37 goals and 65 assists for 102 points and 96 penalty minutes in 101 games from 2019-22. The Tampa, Florida native also represented Team USA at the 2022 Winter Olympic Games, posting one goal and one assist for two points in four contests. Smith was originally drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in the third round (91st overall) in the 2018 NHL Draft. Arizona acquired his rights via trade on March 21, 2023.
July 3
John Leonard: The Arizona Coyotes have signed forward John Leonard to a one-year, two-way contract. Last season, the 5-foot-11, 196-pound Leonard played 67 games for the AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals and recorded 17 goals and 27 assists for 44 points and 14 penalty minutes; including one goal and two assists for three points in four games against the Roadrunners. Overall, he ranked second on the Admirals in scoring during the 2022-2023 season and appeared in six games as Milwaukee advanced to the Western Conference Finals before ultimately falling to Coachella Valley in six games. Also during the 2022-2023 campaign, Leonard appeared in six games for the Nashville Predators and scored a goal in his season debut on March 2. The 24-year-old native of Westwood, New Jersey has played in 64 career NHL games over three seasons with the Predators and San Jose Sharks, recording five goals and 11 assists for 16 points and four penalty minutes. He has played in 114 total AHL games with Milwaukee and the San Jose Barracuda, tallying 35 goals and 43 assists for 78 points and and 20 penalty minutes. The 24-year old had seven goals and three assists for ten points in nine games overall against Tucson with the Barracuda and Admirals. He was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the sixth round (182nd overall) in the 2018 NHL Draft.

Travis Barron: The Arizona Coyotes have signed forward Travis Barron to a one-year, two-way contract. Last season, in his second year with the Roadrunners, the 6-foot-1, 205-pound 24-year-old played 50 games, recording seven goals and 10 assists for 17 points before a season-ending injury on March 10 in Milwaukee. He led the Roadrunners with eight fights and his 98 penalty minutes marked a career high as a professional and ranked fourth on the club. He was also second among Roadrunners forwards with a plus-five. The Belfountain, Ontario native has played in 170 career AHL games and he was a member of the ECHL’s 2018 Kelly Cup Championship team with the Colorado Eagles. In 2017-18, Barron played for Arizona Coyotes Head Coach André Tourigny while with the Ontario Hockey League’s Ottawa 67’s to wrap up his junior career. He was drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in the seventh round (191st overall) in the 2016 NHL Draft.

Matt Villalta: The Arizona Coyotes have signed goaltender Matt Villalta to a one-year, two-way contract. Last season, the 23-year-old Villalta played in 22 games for the Ontario Reign, AHL affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings and posted a 12-8-1 record, a .910 save percentage, a 2.65 Goals Against Average, and one shutout. Both his save percentage and goals-against-average figures set AHL career-bests. In 108 career AHL games, the 6-foot-4, 190-pound netminder has posted a record of 58-32-14 record, a .901 save percentage, a 3.04 Goals-Against-Average and two shutouts. He carried a 4-5-1 record in four seasons and 13 games competing against Tucson and went 2-0 against the Roadrunners in 2022-2023. The Kingston, Ontario native played his major junior hockey with the OHL’s Soo Greyhounds from 2016-19, posting a 98-20-9 record, a .908 save percentage, a 2.71 goals-against-average and five shutouts. He was teammates with Coyotes forward Barrett Hayton during his three seasons with the Greyhounds. Villata was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the third round (72ndoverall) in the 2017 NHL Draft.

Cam Crotty: The Arizona Coyotes have signed defenseman Cameron Crotty to a one-year, two-way contract. He leads the Roadrunners with 164 games played since making his pro debut with Tucson on February 7, 2021. He was originally drafted by the Coyotes in the third round (82nd overall) in the 2017 NHL Draft.

Ryan McGregor: The Arizona Coyotes have signed forward Ryan McGregor to a one-year, two-way contract. McGregor has spent the first three years of his career with the Roadrunners where he totaled 12 goals and six assists for 18 points in 59 games in 2022-2023 and was a reliable mainstay in the face-off circle and on the penalty-kill. He was originally signed by the Coyotes as a free agent on March 19, 2020.

Michael Carcone: The Arizona Coyotes have announced that forward Mike Carcone has been re-signed to a two-year, one-way contract. The reigning AHL scoring leader remains in the desert after setting Roadrunners team records in 2022-23 with 31 goals and 85 total points, as well as two goals and an assist in nine NHL games with the Arizona Coyotes. Carcone set career highs across the board in his third campaign with the Tucson Roadrunners in 2022-2023, finishing the year with 31 goals, 54 assists and 85 total points in 65 games played. The 27-year-old led the American Hockey League in total points and shots on goal (273), while also finishing in the top five in goals (5th), assists (3rd), power-play goals (3rd), power-play points (2nd), and had the longest scoring streak in the league at 15 consecutive games with a point. Along with winning the John B. Sollenberger Trophy as the leading point-getter in the AHL in 2022-23, Carcone represented the Roadrunners at his first AHL All-Star Classic in Laval in February and was named to the AHL’s First All-Star Team at the end of the season. Since joining the Roadrunners prior to the start of the 2020-21 season, Mike Carcone has totaled 70 goals and 81 assists for 151 points in 148 games played. Following his first season in Southern Arizona, Carcone signed a two-year, two-way contract with Arizona on July 29, 2021. He ranks in the top three in team history for goals (2nd), assists (3rd), total points (2nd) and penalty minutes (207 – 3rd). Carcone made his National Hockey League debut with the Arizona Coyotes on December 28, 2021, and has since registered nine points (6g 3a) in 30 NHL contests with Arizona.
June 20
Steven Kampfer: The Arizona Coyotes announced that defenseman Steven Kampfer was signed to a one-year, two-way contract. Kampfer joined the Roadrunners in March 2023 after appearing in 44 games with the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins. The 34-year-old recorded two goals and five assists for seven points in 15 games with Tucson, and represented the United States at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing alongside Roadrunners teammate Nathan Smith.
