1-on-1 with Jan Jenik

Q: It’s your fourth year in Tucson this year. How are you enjoying it?

I love it here, I love the environment. I like the facility, I like the team. There’s nothing to complain about.

Q: How does a big scrum or a fight at the end of the period affect the team’s momentum? There was an instance on Saturday where you got into a fight right at the end of the period. What’s it like in the locker room after that?

You know, I think there were a couple plays that could have been called as a penalty but weren’t. I think that’s why the game got a little chippy. It was it was fun. It was a tough game, but that’s why we play hockey. I would say we like to compete. As you said, it definitely fires the boys up and then we just try to push each other and help each other out there. So, if it only helps the team, right?

Q: You’re now an “older” guy in the locker room at 23 years old. How do you offer insights and pointers to younger and newer players on the team?

We have a great group of guys, so everybody is trying to help everyone and just make each other better. But yeah, if there’s something I see and I think I could help one of the younger guys, I will definitely point it out to him and give him the heads up to help him.

Q: You have a good bit of travel time coming up here. What is your go to bus activity? Are you playing cards with the guys or are you doing something else? Who are you sitting with?

Well, I’m definitely sitting with Milos Keleman, and we probably have either my computer or my Nintendo in our laps playing some video games. We like to play FIFA soccer and Mario Party and some card games on the Nintendo. That’s our go-to.

Q: Jan, what’s your favorite location to travel to?

We love Sedona. We like to go San Diego, around there. Those spots are pretty fun. Mount Lemmon is pretty cool. We went two times last year, once without the snow and then with the snow. It was the first time our dogs saw snow in real life, and they were pretty excited.

Q: Are you a big collector of anything? Clothes or shoes or anything like that?

In that sort of realm, honestly, I collect dog toys over here (he laughs). All I see when I sit down is just dog toys everywhere and then I clean them up and five minutes later I’m sitting on a dog toy (he laughs).
