2024-2025 Season: Two-Way Tracker & More

Leading into Training Camp, we will update this article with the latest signings of recent Roadrunners and other players that we’ve seen throughout the AHL who have signed NHL/AHL Two-Way Contracts and if appearing in the AHL will be Tucson Roadrunners. In addition, several below 2023-2024 Roadrunners have been issued qualifying offers.

August 31

Robert Bortuzzo: Signed a one-year, two-way contract. Last season, the 15-year vet was traded from the St. Louis Blues to the New York Islanders on December 8 for a seventh-round pick; playing in 27 total games in 2023-24 across the two teams. The 35-year-old defenseman has 560 NHL games played under his belt; tallying 20 goals and 54 assists for 74 points. Bortuzzo has played for just three teams in his 15 seasons: including the Pittsburgh Penguins, St. Louis Blues and New York Islanders. His longest tenure with a team went for nine seasons with St. Louis from 2014-to-2023; which included a Stanley Cup Championship Victory in the 2018-19 season. Bortuzzo has also played in 60 Stanley Cup playoff games; scoring two goals with three assists for five points.

July 9

Egor Sokolov: Signed to a one-year, two-way contract on after being acquired from Ottawa in exchange for Jan Jenik on July 3. Is the Belleville Senators all-time leader in points and games played with 76 goals and 104 assists for 180 points in 240 games. Has at least 19 goals scored in three-straight AHL seasons and tallied 21 goals and 25 assists for 46 points in 71 games last season while adding a goal and three assists for four points in seven playoff games. Drafted in the second round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. Was an AHL All-Star during the 2022-2023 season. Is Six-Foot-Three and 217 pounds. Has played in 13 career NHL games.

July 7

Curtis Douglas: Signed to a two-year, two-way contract. Led AHL with ten fights in 2023-2024 and was also fifth in the league with 148 penalty minutes. Has appeared in 107 games with Tucson after being acquired in trade from Toronto in November of 2022 and has totaled 13 goals and 22 assists. He led the Windsor Spitfires in scoring over his final two seasons of junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League with 57 goals and 56 assists for 113 points in 128 games.

Jaxson Stauber: Signed to a one-year, two-way contract. Last season, the 25-year-old Stauber recorded a 2.85 goals-against-average and a .902 save percentage while posting a 18-8-3 record with two shutouts in 31 games with the Rockford IceHogs (AHL). Stauber also tallied one goal and four assists for five points to lead all AHL goaltenders in scoring. The Wayzata, Minnesota native played in six games with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2022-23, winning five of his six starts and posting a 2.81 goals-against-average and a .911 save percentage. The 6-foot-3, 174-pound netminder played two collegiate seasons at Providence College from 2020-22 and went 32-21-7 with eight shutouts, a 2.13 goals-against-average and .919 save percentage in 60 games. 

Milos Kelemen: Signed to a one-year, two-way contract. Has 30 goals and 32 assists for 62 points in 113 games for the Roadrunners and has played 24 games in the NHL over the last two seasons. Is second on Tucson in scoring over the last two seasons behind only Mike Carcone. Just competed with 2023-2024 Roadrunners defenseman and recent two-way contract signee Patrick Koch at the 2024 Ice Hockey World Championship for Slovakia. He was a member of the Slovakian team at the 2022 Winter Olympics that won the Bronze Medal.

July 2

Travis Barron: Signed to a one-year, two-way contract, he is ninth all-time with 249 games played for the Roadrunners and is third all-time in team history with 249 penalty minutes. 2024-2025 would mark his fourth season of appearing with Tucson. Was one of two Roadrunners to collect a hat trick in 2023-2024 in a 7-5 win over San Jose on December 2. Has 29 goals and 33 assists for 62 points; including 12 goals during the 2021-2022 season and 10 during the 2022-2023 season. He has fought 15 times over the last three seasons.

Andrew Agozzino: Signed to a two-year, two-way contract after leading San Diego (AHL) and finishing seventh in the AHL in scoring with 26 goals and 38 assists for 64 points in 72 games last season. The three-time AHL All-Star has registered 245 goals and 335 assists for 580 points and 652 penalty minutes in 736 career AHL games. He been a captain or alternate captain for eight seasons throughout his AHL career and also appeared in 51 career regular season games. In 30 career games against Tucson over four seasons with: Colorado, San Diego and San Jose, Agozzino has 15 goals and 22 assists for 37 points in 30 games.

July 1

Kevin Connauton: Signed to a two-year, two-way contract. Played for Ontario last year as an alternate captain and had four assists in eight games against the Roadrunners. He had one goal and four assists for five points in eight games against Tucson during the 2019-2020 season with Colorado. Has played in 360 career NHL games and 385 career AHL games.

June 25

Vlad Kolyachonok: Signed to a two-year, (two-way contract for 2024-2025, one-way contract for 2025-2026). Second among Roadrunners defensemen with eight goals during the 2023-2024 season, playing in 38 games with Tucson and five games in the NHL. Since joining Tucson for the 2021-2022 season, is second among defensemen in games played (145) and third in points (47 points on 14 goals and 33 assists).

June 24

Ben McCartney: Signed to a one-year, two-way contract having totaled 156 games (fourth most on team) with the Roadrunners since 2021. Finishing the season as a 22-year-old, he has served as a Roadrunners alternate captain each of the last two seasons. Made his pro debut with the Roadrunners on May 8, 2021 and made his NHL debut on November 5, 2021; becoming the fifth fastest seventh round pick in history to make his NHL debut after being drafted in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. He is the Roadrunners third leading scorer since making his pro debut with 32 goals and 46 assists for 78 points in 156 games.

June 20

Patrik Koch: Signed to a one-year, two-way contract. One of five Roadrunners to appear in at least 65 of 72 regular season games last season and also made his NHL debut on March 8 during his first season in the desert. He finished fourth among Roadrunners defensemen with 14 assists in 2023-2024. After season ended, played in eight games with Slovakia at the 2024 World Championships.

June 19

Matt Villalta: Signed to a two-year, two-way contract following his first season with the Roadrunners and leading the AHL last year in wins (31), minutes (3048:31) and finishing second in saves (1328). 31 wins set a new Roadrunners season-high and he was also the first-ever Tucson goaltender to be named an AHL All-Star. Villalta is 89-51-14 over the last five seasons in the AHL. The six-foot-four goaltender made his NHL debut on February 16, 2024 and his first NHL start on February 18, 2024.
