THE HIGHLIGHTS:

In the team’s season opener on Friday in Texas, goaltender Antti Raanta posted a 19-save shutout while on a conditioning loan from the Arizona Coyotes en route to a 2-0 win.

The team jumped out to a 2-0 lead in both games on Friday and Sunday, with Brayden Burke and Jon Martin doing the damage against Texas, while Lane Pederson and Tyler Steenbergen struck in San Antonio.

Goaltender Adin Hill returned to game action for Tucson on Sunday and was succeeded by the North American pro debut of Swedish netminder Erik Kallgren.

THEY SAID IT:

“I think it was a really good first game.  We’ve got a lot to build off on, but so does a lot of teams after the first night.  It’s good though, it’ll be a learning curve for us but hopefully we can keep excelling every night.” – Roadrunners defenseman Aaron Ness following Friday’s victory in Cedar Park, TX.

“I’m really happy with our guys’ play.  I thought we played really well actually.  It’s the first game of the season, it was a long summer and to come out like that, it was really impressive.” – Roadrunners Alternate Captain Michael Bunting said Friday night of the team’s first game together as a group.

THIS WEEK’S NOTES:

The team will practice at the IceDen Chandler twice this week before departing for Ontario, CA on Thursday.

The Arizona Coyotes began the home portion of their season in front of a sold out Gila River Arena (17,125) on Saturday against Boston.

Roadrunners alumni Christian Fischer, Conor Garland and Lawson Crouse all played for the Coyotes in the contest.
